Recycling of HDPE materials

As part of the Veolia Group, Multiport GmbH specialises in the production of compounds and regrind from HDPE plastic packaging waste from households, commerce and industry. Our compounds and regrinds find their way back into the production of a wide variety of plastic products, either in pure form or as an admixture, and replace virgin plastic made from crude oil.

With a total capacity of more than 70,000 tonnes per year and over 150 employees, Multiport GmbH and its associate company MultiPet GmbH in Bernburg form one of the largest plastics recycling sites in Europe.

Plastics Recycling

HDPE (high-density polyethylene) packaging waste is delivered to Multiport GmbH as raw material pressed into bales. After the bales have been broken up and foreign materials and impurities removed, a multi-stage shredding process turns the material into regrind, followed by several washing, cleaning and separating processes. The dried plastic regrind can be processed by the plastics industry as a substitute for virgin material. The majority, however, is subsequently processed into customer-specific compounds. Multiport GmbH was founded in 1991 and has been part of the Veolia group since December 2017, contributing to the extension of Veolia’s plastic recycling activities.
